Elegoo review: Centauri Carbon 2 Combo 3D printer

Elegoo Review 2026: Which 3D Printer Is Worth It?

Elegoo review: Centauri Carbon 2 Combo 3D printer with the CANVAS four-spool filament hub
Centauri Carbon 2 Combo with the CANVAS hub: $369 on the US store when we checked (list price $449).

Looking for an honest Elegoo review before you order a 3D printer? This page answers what buyers ask before spending $239 to $399 on an Elegoo machine: is the store legit, which printer fits your project, what it really costs once filament or resin is added, and who should skip it. Prices checked November 5, 2026 on the Elegoo US store during its Black Friday sale.

Quick verdict: Research Pick

Elegoo sells capable printers at prices below most enclosed or multi-color rivals, ships from inside the US, and backs new machines with a 12-month warranty. The catch is the fine print: a 14-day return window with restocking fees, and short warranties on wear parts. Pick by project type, not by headline speed.

Who Is Elegoo For? (And Who Should Skip It)

Elegoo’s line splits into two very different technologies. Filament (FDM) printers make larger, tougher parts. Resin printers make small, very detailed parts but add chemicals and post-processing. Start from what you want to print.

Elegoo CANVAS hub feeding four filament colors into the printer

You want multi-color prints in an enclosure

Need: 4-color prints, tougher materials like PETG or PC. Match: Centauri Carbon 2 Combo. Why: the CANVAS hub handles four spools and the enclosed chamber helps with warping-prone materials.

Neptune 4 Pro Klipper firmware speed settings graphic

You want a fast first printer on a budget

Need: single-color PLA parts, lowest entry price. Match: Neptune 4 Pro. Why: $239 buys a 225 x 225 x 265 mm volume, auto bed leveling and Klipper firmware rated up to 500 mm/s.

Highly detailed resin dragon miniature printed on a Saturn 4 Ultra 16K

You paint miniatures or make jewelry models

Need: fine surface detail on small parts. Match: Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. Why: a 10-inch 16K mono LCD with 14 x 19 micron XY resolution, plus a heated resin tank.

Skip it if: you need a printer you can return freely after trying it (Elegoo charges 15% on open-box returns and does not accept used machines back for change-of-mind), you want an actively heated chamber for nylon or carbon-fiber nylon work, or you cannot ventilate a room for resin fumes.

Elegoo Printers Compared

Here is how the three most useful options stack up in this Elegoo review. We picked one multi-color FDM machine, one budget FDM machine and one resin machine, because those are the three buyer types we see most.

Front view of the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 enclosed printer

Centauri Carbon 2 Combo: $369

256 x 256 x 256 mm, CoreXY, up to 500 mm/s, 350 C nozzle, 110 C bed, CANVAS 4-color hub, about 45 dB. 78 on-site reviews, averaging roughly 4.5 out of 5 by our count of the star breakdown.

Good: Enclosure plus 4-color printing at a mid-range price.
Watch out: No active chamber heating; RFID auto-detection only works with Elegoo filament.

Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro open-frame FDM 3D printer

Neptune 4 Pro: $239

225 x 225 x 265 mm, bed-slinger frame, up to 500 mm/s, 300 C nozzle, segmented heated bed, auto leveling, dual-gear direct extruder, Klipper firmware.

Good: Lowest entry price in the range.
Watch out: Open frame, single color, louder and more hands-on than an enclosed CoreXY.

Saturn 4 Ultra 16K: $399

10-inch 16K mono LCD, 211.68 x 118.37 x 220 mm, up to 150 mm/h, tilt release, tank heating to 30 C, AI camera, Wi-Fi. 149 on-site reviews, roughly 4.6 out of 5 by our count.

Good: Very fine detail for miniatures.
Watch out: LCD warranty is only 3 months; resin needs gloves, washing and ventilation.

What to Check Before Buying Elegoo

We apply the same five criteria to every brand we cover, so this Elegoo review can be compared with our other printer pages.

Performance

Elegoo quotes up to 500 mm/s for both FDM models, but Tom’s Hardware saw real test prints average around 50 to 160 mm/s on the Centauri Carbon 2. Treat top speed as a ceiling, not a typical print time.

Durability

New machines carry 12 months of warranty, but nozzles, PTFE tubes, heaters, hot ends and build plates on FDM models are listed as consumables with no warranty. Extruders get 6 months.

Ease of use

All three picks have automatic leveling. Tom’s Hardware reported under 20 minutes from unboxing to printing on the Centauri Carbon 2. Resin adds washing and curing steps.

Hidden costs

Filament or resin is extra on every model. Resin users also need isopropyl alcohol or a wash station, gloves and a ventilated space. Non-quality returns cost you shipping both ways plus a restocking fee.

Value

With the sale prices we saw, $369 for an enclosed 4-color machine and $239 for a Klipper bed-slinger are strong numbers. Compare the list price too, because sale prices on the store had a countdown and may end.

Automatic calibration is standard on the Centauri Carbon 2, which reduces first-print fiddling.

Pros and Cons of Elegoo

This Elegoo review weighs the brand as a whole, across the three picks above.

Pros

  • Prices well below many enclosed multi-color machines
  • Ships from the US, free over $50 to the contiguous states
  • Clear warranty table by model and part on the store
  • Strong resin range for miniature makers

Cons

  • Only 14 days to return, with 5% (unopened) or 15% (opened, unused) restocking fees
  • Wear parts and some resin parts have short or no warranty
  • Centauri Carbon 2 has no actively heated chamber
  • RFID filament detection only works with Elegoo spools

Elegoo vs QIDI

QIDI is the closest alternative if you want an enclosed CoreXY printer. In our QIDI Q2 review, the Q2 listed at $499 alone or $649 with its QIDI Box, with a 270 x 270 x 256 mm volume, a 370 C nozzle and an actively heated chamber up to 65 C. That heated chamber matters for engineering materials such as ABS, ASA and nylon.

The Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 Combo costs less at the sale price we saw and includes four-color printing, but its chamber is passive. If most of your prints are PLA, PETG or TPU, Elegoo is the better value. If you plan heavy ABS, ASA or nylon work, QIDI’s heated chamber is worth the higher price. Check both stores on the day you buy, because our QIDI price is from an earlier check.

Real Cost: Price, Shipping, Returns and Warranty

This part of the Elegoo review covers what you pay beyond the sticker price.

Why Check Here Before You Buy

Prices checked on a date

Every price on this page was read from the Elegoo US store on November 5, 2026, during a sale. We show the list price where it matters so you can tell when a sale ends.

Hidden costs spelled out

Restocking fees, return shipping, consumable parts and resin supplies are listed above, because they change the real price more than a $20 discount.

Who should skip

We say plainly when Elegoo is the wrong choice: heated-chamber nylon work, buyers who want easy returns, and anyone without space to ventilate resin.

Saturn 4 Ultra 16K smart tank heating keeps resin at 30 C
Tank heating to 30 C helps resin print consistently in cool rooms.

A useful Elegoo review tells you what to skip, not only what to buy. Read more about how we reach a verdict. Nothing here changes the price you pay at the store.

Our Verdict on This Elegoo Review

Research Pick (not hands-on tested by BuyOrBypass)

Choose the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo if you want enclosed, four-color PLA and PETG prints at a mid-range price. Choose the Neptune 4 Pro if budget comes first and you are fine with an open frame. Choose the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K for miniatures. Before you order, accept the 14-day return limit and budget for filament or resin.

Elegoo FAQ

Quick answers from this Elegoo review.

Is Elegoo legit?

Yes. Elegoo is an established 3D printer brand whose machines are reviewed by outlets such as Tom’s Hardware, and the US store lists clear shipping, refund and warranty terms. This Elegoo review found the terms strict on returns but transparent.

Is Elegoo worth the price?

For PLA, PETG and TPU printing, yes: $369 for an enclosed four-color machine at the sale price we saw is competitive. For nylon or ABS-heavy work, a printer with an actively heated chamber may be worth more.

How long does shipping take?

The US store says in-stock products take 3 to 7 workdays, and pre-owned products 4 to 8 workdays. Standard shipping is free on orders of $50 or more to the contiguous US and D.C.

Can I return it?

Within 14 days. Unopened returns carry a 5% restocking fee, opened but unused returns 15%, and you pay shipping both ways. Used printers are not accepted for change-of-mind returns.

How does Elegoo compare with QIDI?

Elegoo is cheaper and includes four-color printing on the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo. QIDI’s Q2 costs more but has an actively heated chamber, which helps with engineering materials.
